We’re excited to have gotten our hands on a brand new Chief MI200T spot welder to join our tool kit. This is an amazing welding tool that uses extremely high pressure combined with a strong electric current to weld pieces of metal together. There are no other layers or wires involved. The resulting weld fully bonds the pieces of metal together and is stronger than the sheet metal around it. This is a game-changing technology that makes welding not only of even higher quality, but makes it easier to get right.
As an added bonus, this spot welder is also approved by American Honda! Since we are a collision repair and auto body shop that does a good deal of work on Hondas and Hyundais, that is great news.
Many repairs have the option to use structural adhesives, which form incredibly strong bonds – often stronger than the metal around them – but for these cases, a spot welder is a better options. It preserves the vehicle’s original intended design. In an emergency situation or in future repairs, the newly welded parts will behave as expected, as compared to structural adhesives where there can be difficulty making the repair as needed or cutting through the adhesive.
Welding is a hard-earned skill and our technicians are excited to have this tool to use. It’s one more way we can keep our standards of quality at the top of the pack. And if we don’t mind saying so, it’s fun to have around, too.
